Job Summary:
The Marine Surveyor is responsible for conducting in-depth inspections and assessments of marine vessels, port facilities, and cargo to ensure compliance with international regulations, industry standards, and company policies. The individual in this role will play a crucial role in identifying potential risks and providing accurate data for decision-making in the maritime operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive inspections and surveys of vessels, including hulls, machinery, equipment, and safety systems, to determine their seaworthiness and adherence to established standards.
2. Inspect port facilities, terminals, and infrastructure to assess their compliance with safety regulations, security measures, and industry guidelines.
3. Examine cargo loading and stowage procedures to ensure proper handling, securing, and documentation of goods during maritime transportation.
4. Perform investigations and inspections related to marine incidents, accidents, and claims to determine causes, liability, and compliance with regulations.
5. Inspect and assess ships for compliance with international conventions, rules, and regulations, such as SOLAS, ISM, ISPS, and MARPOL.
6. Review and evaluate vessel maintenance records, logs, and certificates to ensure compliance with classification society rules and requirements.
7. Prepare detailed reports and documentation outlining survey findings, including recommendations for corrective actions, improvements, and maintenance.
8. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, such as ship owners, operators, classification societies, and regulatory authorities, to address non-compliance issues and ensure adherence to standards.
9. Stay updated with industry trends, changes in regulations, and emerging technologies related to maritime operations and surveying techniques.
10. Maintain accurate records of survey activities, findings, and recommendations, ensuring confidentiality and data security.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Nautical Sciences, or a related field.
2. Proven work experience as a Marine Surveyor or in a similar role within the maritime industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations, conventions, and industry standards.
4. Strong understanding of shipbuilding, vessel operations, and marine engineering principles.
5. Proficient in conducting vessel inspections, surveys, and audits, ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards.
6. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess risks, identify non-compliance issues, and provide practical solutions.
7. Effective verbal and written communication skills to prepare comprehensive reports and communicate findings to stakeholders.
8. Detail-oriented approach with a high level of accuracy in data collection, analysis, and documentation.
9. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Proficiency in using relevant surveying tools, software, and technical equipment.
